Drive South or North of MB for Better Waves

There's not a lot of wave activity in Manhattan Beach today. If you do head out, use a log or maybe do some stand up paddling.

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Manhattan Beach Patch surf report. Well, it looks like the latest dose of energy isn't showing along this stretch of sand, so you might want to do a little driving down south or further north.

It's starting off mostly clean and glassy, with a minimal amount of energy out there. We've got mainly south southwest swell and barely any northwest energy in the water.

That recipe is making for some fairly weak, crumbly lines, with a few decent ones on a log or an SUP.  Most Manhattan Beach spots are seeing knee high waves, with the breaks that pick up the most southerly energy seeing some thigh high waves, with maybe a few waist high sets.

Taking a look at the tides, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, at 6:13 this morning it dropped to a negative 0.4 low, which will have some spots really needing water early to mid-morning. The tide then climbs back up to a 3.2 high at 12:58 this afternoon.

If you're planning on paddling, you'll want to wear at least your 3/2 fullsuit and maybe the booties, with the water temperature still on the cold side and hanging between 57 and 58 degrees. Good luck out there!
