DUI, Driver's License Checkpoint Slated For Friday In Manhattan Beach
The Manhattan Beach Police Department will be holding a DUI and driver's license checkpoint on July 21.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Manhattan Beach Police Department announced they would be holding a DUI and driver's license checkpoint on July 21 at an undisclosed location within the city.
According to a statement from the MBPD, the intent of the checkpoint is the encourage sober designated drivers. The checkpoint will be from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
"By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving, and driving while unlicensed will be reduced," MBPD said in a statement.

Impaired driving doesn't just include alcohol, some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, other illegal drugs and marijuana can also land someone a DUI. First-time DUI charges can cost an average of $13,500 in fines and drivers could get their licenses suspended if convicted.
The checkpoint will be conducted in joint partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety, which provided funding to MBPD by a grant in order to promote safe driving practices.

"Our 'Zero Tolerance' approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those who still don't heed the warning to designate a sober driver before celebrations begin. Simply put, 'If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested,'" MBPD said.
Members of the public were encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they suspect someone is driving under the influence.
