Getting Fit From Pier-to-Pier

Check out the G.I. Joe Pier-to-Pier run in this photo gallery.

Participants in the fall installment of the tri-annual  had some chilly weather to contend with Saturday morning, but that didn't deter them from traversing the sand in the name of fitness.

Created some 11+ years ago by Joe Charles [the "Joe" of G.I. Joe Bootcamp] as the graduation ceremony for his bootcamp finishers, the event is now put together by Charles and the city of Hermosa Beach, and covers about four miles from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back.

Charles, whose bootcamp has been available for 11+ years offered through the Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation department, has said the event is held in honor of MB Parks and Recreation legend Charlie Saikley, who helped him turn his grads' final G.I. Joe challenge into a community event.
