Holiday Weekend Brings the Beachgoers

About 30,000 visitors filled the city's downtown and beaches over the Fourth of July weekend, mixing with locals on bikes and on foot who donned various combinations of red, white and blue apparel.

The beach was the main holiday attraction, as many played volleyball, swam in the waves or simply lay on beach towels soaking up the July sun. The city's parks also saw an increase in foot traffic and toe-tapping.

Manhattan Beach Police officers patrolled the Strand and surrounding areas closely, while electronic street signs reminded vistors that all fireworks are illegal in the city.
