Local Teachers Named Persons of the Month

The City Council honored more than a dozen Manhattan Beach educators as Persons of the Month this week, in recognition of their many years of service.

Mayor Mitch Ward said what prompted him to honor the district's teachers this month was a school board meeting he attended last year at which possible staff cuts were being addressed.

"I still recall many of the students and the parents that were in the audience that night," he said. "And they were there fighting for their favorite teachers. I told my colleagues, 'We should never ever forget this moment.' And we won't because we really love each and every one of you. Keep up the good work."

The following educators were honored at the meeting with a pin and certificate naming them the city of Manhattan Beach's Persons of the Month:

• Sue Anne Bertran, educational adviser, Mira Costa High School
• Joanne Guelff, first grade teacher, Grand View Elementary
• Danielle Radl, kindergarten teacher, Meadows Elementary
• Kim Holz, third grade teacher, Robinson Elementary
• Carol Mathews, drama teacher, Mira Costa High School
• Christine McRae, kindergarten teacher, Robinson Elementary
• Ann Meyers, third grade teacher, Grand View Elementary
• Emily Sanders, kindergarten teacher, Pacific Elementary
• Miguel Kulczycki, science teacher, Mira Costa High School
• Shirlee Rogers, educator, Pacific Elementary
• Linda Gesualdi, math teacher, Mira Costa High School
• Beverly Read, English teacher, Manhattan Beach Middle School
• Nancy Stephenson, social science teacher, Manhattan Beach Middle School
