
A motorist lost control of his vehicle and struck an oncoming car in Hawthorne this afternoon, killing its driver.
Firefighters were dispatched about 1 p.m. to the 13100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, near 131st Street, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Randall Wright.
The crash occurred on the Hawthorne side of the border with Gardena.

The victim died while being cut from the wreckage of his car, police said.
“The whole front of his car is missing,” Gardena police Sgt. Eric Hyde told the Daily Breeze.

The other driver suffered only minor injuries, but was nonetheless taken to a hospital, according to police and fire officials.
