Man Shot, Killed Leaving South Bay House Identified

He was getting into his parked car after leaving a residence when a male assailant walked up to him, pulled out a gun and shot him.

HAWTHORNE, CA -- A young man who was fatally shot in Hawthorne was identified Friday, as the search for his killer continued.

The shooting occurred about 8:40 p.m. Monday in the 11900 block of Daleside Avenue. Devonte Raye, 22, of Los Angeles died at a hospital, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

Raye was getting into his parked car after leaving a residence when a male assailant walked up to him, pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, said Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Sheriff's homicide detectives are assisting Hawthorne police in the investigation.
