Manhattan Beach Surf Shop Closes After 29 Years Of Business

Surf Concepts, a longtime South Bay surf shop, will be closing its doors at the end of May.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Manhattan Beach's Surf Concepts is closing after 29 years. Eric Nakaji, the owner of the popular surf shop, told ABC7 his business couldn't survive the latest rent increase.

The store will officially close its doors at the end of the month.

“It’s not on my terms,” Nakaji told The Beach Reporter. “In a nutshell we lost the lease.”

Surf Concepts first opened its doors in 1989 on Manhattan Beach Boulevard before moving to its current location on Sepulveda Boulevard in 1996, according to ABC7.

The building landlord and a group of visitors came into the store to take measurements and told the owner it will most likely be rented to a bank, the Beach Reporter said.
