Manhattan Beach Votes On School Measure MB: Results

Measure MB, a $2.6 million annual parcel tax expected to keep the local school district​ afloat, required a super majority to pass.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Manhattan Beach voters headed to the polls Tuesday to vote for Measure MB, a $2.6 million annual parcel tax expected to keep the local school district afloat. As of Wednesday morning, the measure received 68.32 percent of votes in support of it.

To pass, Measure MB required 66.7 percent support, according to The Beach Reporter. More than 7,600 people voted on the measure, which will be used to maintain quality education, offset state funding shortfalls, and provide $2.65 million annually that the state cannot take away, according to the Los Angeles County of Registrar.

The $2.65 million will be used to attract and retain high-quality teachers, maintain manageable class sizes, and protect quality math, science, reading, art, and music programs, the county website said.

“Everyone says the schools are the number one reason people move to Manhattan Beach,” Superintendent Mike Matthews told The Beach Reporter.
