Paddle-Out for LeRoy Grannis Set

A memorial for the legendary surf photographer will be held June 25 at 11 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier.

The late LeRoy "Granny" Grannis, a Hermosa Beach native renowned for his surf photography, will be honored with a paddle-out memorial at 11 a.m. on June 25, from the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.

Grannis  at a Torrance nursing home, according to his family.

Surfers will gather to paddle into the ocean together to commemorate Grannis' life and how he loved the sport of surfing—flowers are also traditionally tossed into the ocean in memory of a lost loved one during paddle-out ceremonies.

The event will include guest speakers and a video slideshow of some iconic Grannis photography at  restaurant on Pier Plaza.

The Hermosa Beach City Council approved the event plans in a meeting last Tuesday night.
