Adult Financial Education Services will offer a FREE workshop on Maximizing Social Security on Saturday, October 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room at the Ken Miller Recreation Center. For many Americans, Social Security is the single largest asset they have in retirement, and greater than 90% of all recipients do not maximize their Social Security benefits. Advance planning is essential and the decisions you make today can have a tremendous impact on the total amount of benefits you stand to receive over your lifetime. This educational workshop will provide you with much needed information to help you understand the system, coordinate spousal and survivor benefits, minimize taxes, and maximize your personal benefits. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or widowed, there may be ways to maximize the lifetime Social Security benefits you receive. One of the most important decisions you need to make before you retire is when and how to claim Social Security benefits. About half of retirees apply for Social Security as soon as they become eligible at age 62, but by doing so, they may significantly and permanently impact their income and benefits for the rest of their lives. The difference between the best and worst possible decision of when to start Social Security can be well over $100,000. Learn important rules that affect the amount of retirement benefits you collect, as well as strategies for coordinating Social Security with other sources of retirement income. For additional information and registration, visit the website at https://info.greenlineca.com/course-outline-sep2018. The three-day event will take place in Ruby’s parking lot and the Seaside Lagoon with an expected 7,000 to 9,000 attendees each day and two stages featuring chart topping, national acts. It’s the first coastal festival ever to be held in Los Angeles on the Pacific Ocean. This is gonna be BIG! For additional information, visit the website at https://beachlifefestival.com/.

The South Bay Artist Collective is in trouble and needs our support! Over the last few years, the South Bay Artist Collective has provided the South Bay with a community art gallery – having 12 free-to-the-public shows during that time span, while hosting fundraisers for schools and end-of-year feature shows for the MBMS and the MCHS art departments. However, due to increases in rent and operational costs, the Collective is now looking to ensure they can keep their local gallery open and running for the upcoming 2019 year. Please join the Collective for an Art Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, November 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Resin Gallery, in an effort to keep the local gallery open for 2019. The Collective artists are each donating original artwork that will be auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds going to the non-profit. Tickets are available for $75 at http://www.funddeed.com/southbayartistcollective. Ticket holders will have access to the pre-show from 6 to 7 p.m. where they can purchase items before they become available for public bidding. Some items will only be available for ticket holders, such as bids for original commissioned artwork.
