MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Elon Musk is a man of big ideas – nothing is too grand, or too far out of reach. As the founder and CEO of Hawthorne-based SpaceX, he's sent a Tesla car in orbit around earth. He's working on a tunneling system for West Los Angeles to try to combat traffic. He has a blueprint for colonizing Mars within the next seven years, and wants to achieve flying from Los Angeles to Toronto in 30 minutes. His side project, Boring, Co., sold 10,000 flamethrowers in two days.
To say Musk is a visionary would be an understatement. So it comes as no surprise that the 46-year-old was named one of Time's "100 most influential people in 2018."
Yuri Milner, the founder of DST Global, helped fund the $100 million space-exploration project Breakthrough Starshot. He also profiled Musk for Time. Milner wrote:

Suppose that in the year 3000, TIME publishes the 100 most influential people of the millennium. Who from our generation would make the list?
Elon Musk has a shot. Because he is one of the few people who is not only thinking about the long-term survival of our civilization but also doing something about it: building the conditions for a viable colony on Mars.
