Teen Leads Police On Chase Through Manhattan Beach
The 16-year-old was allegedly driving a stolen Toyota Prius.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody early Monday morning after leading police on a chase in Manhattan Beach while driving a stolen Toyota Prius, police said.
At approximately 1:30 am, the Automated License Plate Reader alerted officers of a stolen vehicle on Rosecrans Avenue, the Manhattan Beach Police Department wrote on Facebook. Officers located the car in Downtown Manhattan Beach and attempted to pull it over, but the driver failed to yield to the officers lights and sirens, and ultimately fled from them, the post read.
"The suspect led officers on a pursuit through Manhattan Beach but officers backed off when the suspect's speeds became excessive," MBPD wrote.

The suspect was traveling at 50 miles per hour and running stop signs, Sgt. Tim Zins told The Beach Reporter. The chase lasted about 15 minutes before the suspect abandoned the vehicle, he said.
Officers found the Prius abandoned in the 1800 block of Oak Avenue, and found the suspect walking south on the same street, according to The Beach Reporter.

The suspect's name was withheld because he's a minor. He was booked into Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing stolen property from the vehicle and evading police, Zins told the newspaper.
