Transient Arrested For Allegedly Carjacking Elderly Southbay Woman

The suspected was apprehended while attempting to flee in the stolen vehicle at SouthBay Pavillion Mall.

A man was arrested for allegedly carjacking a vehicle from an 80-year-old woman at a shopping center in Carson, police said.

At around 10 a.m. Saturday, officers got a call about someone breaking a car window with a bat at a parking lot in the 20700 block of Avalon Boulevard, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Leo Foisner said.

Arriving deputies searched the immediate area and located the suspect, 35-year-old Jawwaad Garner, attempting to flee the scene in the allegedly stolen vehicle, Foisner said.

Garner was taken into custody and the woman was unharmed.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned the suspect allegedly burglarized another vehicle in the area, Foisner said.

Garner, a transient, was booked on suspicion of carjacking and burglary.

He’s being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
