Car Crashes into LAX Terminal Critically Injuring Girl, 9

A car crashed into a utility room at Terminal 7, injuring a 9-year-old girl on the sidewalk.

UODATED AT 12:00 A.M.: A sports car crashed into a terminal at Los Angeles International Airport this afternoon, injuring a young pedestrian as well as the vehicle’s driver and a passenger, authorities said.

The pedestrian, a 9-year-old girl, was in critical condition at trauma center as a result of the crash, which happened about 4:50 p.m. at Terminal 7 on the departures (upper) level of the airport, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The vehicle’s driver, a 67-year-old man who apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the car’s brake, and a passenger, also a man, suffered non-life- threatening injuries, Humphrey said, but their conditions were not immediately available.

One of them sustained a lacerated lip, and both were taken to a hospital, Humphrey said.

The car went about three-fourths of the way into a utility closet above a stairwell, according to department Incident Commander Armando Hogan.

The crash appears to be an accident, Airport Police Sgt. Dennis Lau said.

“There’s no indication that it’s anything other than that,” he said.

The crash investigation was being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.

The terminal building’s structural integrity was not compromised, Hogan said.
