Homicide Ruled Out In Case of Burned Body

From City News Service

Homicide has been ruled out as the cause of death of a man whose burned body was found bound to a fence today in Playa Vista.

Police were notified of the discovery in the 5700 block of Mesmer Avenue at about 7:15 a.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera.

Capt. Michael Rueda of the Los Angeles Fire Department told reporters at the scene that homicide had been ruled out. According to Rueda, a liquid found near the victim was sent to a lab to be analyzed.

The body was discovered by a security guard behind an abandoned building near a wash, police said.

The man may have been a homeless person, according to broadcast reports.

The building is across the street from Los Angeles Clippers training facility.

It was not immediately known if the body was bound by chain or rope, Herrera said.

The body was in a seated, upright position, bound to a chain-link fence when it was found, according to ABC7.
