Nighttime Construction to Clog Century Boulevard

Officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are advising motorists that the Southern California Gas Company will begin nighttime construction of new underground gas service two nights this week from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting tonight, December 17 and on Thursday, December 18.

Motorists are advised that Century Boulevard west of Airport Boulevard will be reduced from four lanes to one lane in both directions on an alternating basis each night. Nighttime work on Century Boulevard will stop for two weeks and then resume at 9 p.m. on

Monday, January 5 through 7 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015, weather permitting. The installation of a new high-pressure gas line that crosses the entire Century Boulevard is for an airport-area hotel. Construction permits, noise variance, and a traffic mitigation plan were approved by the Los Angeles Department of Public Works, the Los Angeles Police Commission, and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, respectively.

Passengers and motorists are advised to allow extra time for possible nighttime traffic congestion on Century Boulevard, the busiest of four roads into and out of LAX’s airline terminal area.
