While advocates pushed for a stronger ordinance, officials said a policy offers the same protections and can be implemented and adjusted more quickly.
• DA Investigators Searching for Additional Victims in Multi-State Sex Trafficking Case (contracosta.news) — Investigators based in Martinez are asking potential victims or witnesses in a major multi-state sex trafficking case to come forward, and they've released direct phone numbers for tips and confidential support. A 32-year-old Antioch man is jailed at the Martinez Detention Facility on $1 million bail, and Contra Costa's Human Trafficking Task Force says anyone responding will be offered trauma-informed services.
• Pittsburg Police: Suspect Smuggled Gun Into Booking Facility Despite Being Searched Twice (claycord.com) — A man accused of shooting a Pittsburg police officer after allegedly sneaking a gun into the department's booking facility is now jailed without bail and due in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez on September 16. The officer underwent surgery and is recovering, while the department reviews how the weapon slipped through two searches.
