Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices in Martinez Now Offering Family Medicine

Kaiser Permanente’s Medical Offices in Martinez is now offering Family Medicine to patients. Family Medicine is a primary care medicine specialty that provides continuing, comprehensive health care to patients of all ages and sexes including care of acute and chronic illnesses, women’s health care, preventative care, and health education services. 

“We are very excited to bring Family Medicine to Martinez,” said Malini Shah, MD, associate chief of medicine and one of the physicians spearheading the new department.“Through Family Medicine, spouses, partners, and children can all see the same primary care physician allowing the doctor to really build a personal and comprehensive relationship with the entire family.”

There are currently five Family Medicine doctors at the Martinez Medical Offices with plans for additional physicians as the service grows.

Family Medicine physicians are trained to care for newborns, children, adults, and seniors, which means they can provide continuous care for patients and their families throughout their entire lives.

“This is really a return to good old fashioned medicine,” says Christopher W. Covin, MD, chief of pediatrics and Martinez site chief. “It is taking the best of general practice medicine and coupling it with modern healthcare to create a family dynamic. It is a great choice for patients who are looking for a physician to really know and grow with their family.”

Dr. Melissa Carucci has been a Family Medicine physician for more than 10 years. She is one of the physicians now practicing in Martinez. “Family Medicine allows me to make connections to patients in meaningful ways and help provide the best care possible. I have had patients from one family spanning four generations and being able to provide that level of comprehensive care benefits everyone.”
