30 Nights with the Martinez / Pacheco Homeless Outreach - Yes To Water, No To Shelter

The heat made people thirsty, and a new guy comes to town.

Day 28

8:30 p.m.: I started in the downtown area. I received an email about new guy in the area, so I walked around looking for him for about a hour and couldn't find him. I decided to go to Amtrak. There were a few people out so I asked them if they needed anything; they all said a bottle of water and socks.

Then I went out to Rankin Park and the Marina Park where I made one more contact. I gave the guy some water and I was on my way. Then I headed up to Howe Road. I stopped and talked to a two RV's and a guy in his car. He had a few cats in the car living with him. Again I asked everyone I contacted if they would like services and everyone said no or not right now.

Then I went back downtown to find the guy from earlier. As I was driving up Ferry he was sitting in front of one the bars, so I parked and went over and introduced myself. This guy had clothes on that were litterally falling off him; he had wet himself and was talking to himself. So I asked him about shelter or services. He said no, then I asked if he wanted to go back to where came from. He said yeah so I ended up giving him new clothes and some water and I took him to BART and bought him a ticket to Oakland. He was thankful.

When I got back from BART I decided to check the vacant homes near downtown. I made one contact near one of the homes, gave the guy some water and we talked for a few minutes. Then I went up to Pacheco and walked down some of the creeks and made a few contacts. Everyone wanted water; that seemed to be what every one wanted.

Anyway for being off for three days I thought it would be busier but it was a pretty mild night.
