Chiropractic for kids? You bet!

Chiropractic for kids? You bet!

I’ve been MIA for the past couple months, but I am excited to be back blogging for Patch! I want to expand my articles to include some information that is important to me and that I feel is not very well known. Today I’m going to write about chiropractic care for children, and by children I mean newborns, infants, toddlers, grade school age, preteens and teens. Did I miss anyone?

Chiropractic is a wonderful resource for parents seeking drug-free wellness for their children. Many children are plagued by upset stomachs, colic, ear infections, bed wetting and more. Chiropractic can help keep your child’s body healthy which enables them to live a healthier life. One of my favorite quotes is, “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.” And it’s true; a spine that starts out misaligned can have a serious negative health impact for the life of the person.

Here’s a short list detailing how chiropractic can help your child:

First of all, chiropractic is safe and drug free. Risks of serious complications due to chiropractic adjustments are extremely rare. In fact, chiropractors have one of the lowest malpractice insurance rates of all doctors. Chiropractic is drug free! Studies have shown that chiropractic treatments are equal to or better for a lot of issues as compared to drugs. And which one do you think has the most side effects? Check out the study listed below.

Get your child adjusted immediately following birth! Really, right after birth? How can a newborn baby have any spinal issues? Anyone who has been present at a birth can attest to the stress that both the mother and child go through. The passage through the birth canal is not an easy one and often times there is pushing and pulling on the baby’s neck that can lead to problems with nursing, digestion and other essential functions.

Chiropractic adjustments can help with chronic ear infections. Ear infections or otitis media accounts for over 35% of all pediatrician visits in the United States. Antibiotics, the usual treatment, are not always effective and may even lead to a recurrence of ear infections. A promising study indicates there is a strong correlation between chiropractic adjustments and the resolution of ear infections. Check out the study listed below.

Migraine headaches affect more than 2 million American teenagers, which is 1 in 16 or 6.3% (Neurology Today).

Chiropractic has also been shown to be good for:

Asthma

ADD/ADHD

Bed wetting

Colic

Allergies

Headaches

Sleep disturbances

I am a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and believe wholeheartedly that chiropractic is necessary for the health of our children. My daughter received her first adjustment when she was just 20 minutes old. She hasn’t had a single ear infection and when she does catch a cold, it’s very minor. Of course there are a number of factors besides the adjustments that lead to her good health, the adjustments are an important part of maintenance. Please contact me if you have any questions.
