Health Challenge - week 1 update

Health challenge - how was your week?

So how did everyone do? As difficult as it was, I was able to exercise every day last week for at least 30 minutes. I already mentioned my Monday and Tuesday from last week, so I'll go over my Wednesday-Friday.

Wednesday, I thought I would take a run up Snake Road, but I ran out of time and ended up just running to downtown Martinez. I had some business to take care of down there, so I stopped at a couple different businesses while sweating profusely. Hopefully they didn't mind! I took a different route than I normally do and came back toward my house by running down Alhambra Ave. It was a hot day and the shade that the trees provided was pretty nice.

On Thursday, I had a Martinez Chamber of Commerce mixer to attend at I've Been Framed on Ferry Street. I stayed a little late and started to run out of daylight! I hurried home and went for a nice long walk with my wife Rachel and our baby. It was nice taking a day off from running.

Friday afternoon I was back to it. I had a nice 40 minute run/walk to the Martinez Marina and back. I would really like to change up my route a little, but it's such a nice run, I really enjoy it!

I feel like our first week was a successful one. I had some trouble finding places to fit the run/walk in on a couple days, but I was able to make it happen. I've had some friends and family accept the challenge and most of them were able to get out for 30 minutes every day last week. I'm going to urge everyone to keep it up and we will keep adding something new every week and keep building on what we've done the previous week. Don’t forget that this is going to be a lifestyle change, not just something that happens once and is forgotten about. Exercise is going to increase circulation, increase your strength and stamina and improve your mood! This is just one step in living a longer and healthier life!

Last night, Rachel and I took the baby for a late evening run down to the Marina to catch the sunset. It certainly was a beautiful night…check out the photo!

Stay tuned this afternoon for the next part of the challenge!
