In Conversation with Eckhart Tolle and Wayne Dyer
Highlights on Eckhart Tolle and Wayne Dyer in Discussion.

I love technology, and last Saturday, it helped me engage with my spirituality. I watched "Eckhart Tolle and Wayne Dyer in Conversation" via live streaming video. These two men are considered the “Most spiritually influential people living.” They were in Maui and I was in my apartment, sitting in my comfy chair, looking out on the California Live Oaks on the hills above me. The event was organized by the Omega Institute. If you do not know of them, please check them out.
It was such an inspiring experience. I really wish I had more people in my life who wanted to discuss consciousness, the ego, and the meaning of life, which were topics covered in their talk. I want to share some highlights with you.
Wayne Dyer said that in his experience, “All spiritual advances are preceded by a fall of some kind.” Both of these men struggled in their lives. It’s what they did with their struggle that made them spiritual leaders.

For myself, the many challenges in my life have made me into the spiritual person who I’ve become. Dyer also pointed out that, “Only when a crisis is reached, a new level of awareness can be achieved.” I think that’s because we have to look at the world differently, become more aware of areas we would have never looked at, and find new meaning there.
Eckhart Tolle talked about consciousness, and said, “When we reach elevated levels of consciousness, we affect those around us.” He said in the same way that a negative person can effect everyone, so can a positive person. He talked about how consciousness is how we are going to evolve as humans, and I agree. It’s through our awareness and by consciously examing our selves and our world that will allow us to make the best choices to ensure the health and well being of ourselves, others, and this planet we share.

Wayne Dyer did a better job at selling himself. He has a program on PBS coming soon, which is about seeing the God in us all. How often do you really see someone as a part of God or think of how we are all connected in this world? Sometimes I find a deep connection with people I will probably never see again, just by looking into their eyes and talking to them from a place of being genuine. Just taking the time to say hello or ask “How are you?” can change your world and the world of that other person. We live in a small town, which is the perfect place to take the time to be more aware, and more conscious of our presence.
Both of these spiritual leaders talked about how this moment is the only time we have. That it’s important to not identify with our ego. Tolle said, “Elimination of the ego is the only true spiritual practice.” Read his book “The Power of Now” or “The New Earth” if you are interested in understanding this better.
Dyer remembers wonderful quotes that help him convey his messages. He quoted Rumi who said, “Sell your cleverness and purchase bewilderment.” He said it in reference to what I’ll call a psychic surgery he had done by John of God, who healed Dyer of Leukemia. He said after the surgery, he was bewildered, and in awe. That state of awe is something we often miss in everyday life. Our society expects us to say “I know” not “I wonder”. But according to Dyer, it’s when we, “Have a mind that’s open to everything and attached to nothing.” that we experience higher consciousness.
