Madness on the Main Car Show

"Madness on the Main" Car Show a big hit!

Downtown Martinez and the Midnighters put on a Car Show on Main Street today from 10 AM to 3 PM called "Madness on the Main", with cars and bikes of all years, makes and models, music, awards, a raffle, venders, food and more.

I would guess there was at least 1,000 people in all downtown today, maybe more, and Main Street and the Plaza was abuzz with activity.

Music was done by D.J. Tony Pichardo, plus live music by Jim Caroompas and gang, which today I guess you could call the Carshowroompas Room of Very Bad Boys? Who knows. But they sounded great, and you could hear them all they way down to Ferry Street as their set up stage was at the top of Main Street in front of Goodstuff Guitar Shop facing East down Main Street. And by the way, Happy fifth anniversary Danny, you're the man!

Calvin Fisk of Benicia won Best in Show, for his beautiful 1953 Ford chopped top pickup truck. It was flawless. He told me he usually takes it to car shows in a covered trailer, but today he drove it over from Benicia and was a nervous wreck the whole way. He has taken it all over the United States, including New Orleans, which he said was the best time he ever had.

With it's Big Block 460 Ford motor, it stood out among all the other cars to win Best in Show, well deserved. I am not a big car person, but as you can see, even I was amazed by this truck. A welder by trade, Steam Fitters Local 342, you can tell he knows his stuff. He rebuilt it from scratch, and it did not have a flaw I could see.

So what a show, and also business was brisk all the way up and down Main, at least in the stores I went in. I'm glad I went down, and I found a parking spot!!
