BREAKING: Motorcyclist Killed in I-680 Crash Identified

A motorcyclist who died in a multiple-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon Monday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 39-year-old Martinez resident William Jimenez-Espinoza.

Jimenez-Espinoza was the man pronounced dead after a crash involving two big-rigs and another vehicle on the highway just south of Bollinger Canyon Road. The crash, first reported around 4:40 a.m. Monday, began when a Honda rear-ended a big-rig, causing the vehicle to spin and become disabled in one of the highway’s southbound lanes, California Highway Patrol officials said.

That disabled car was struck by Jimenez-Espinoza, who was ejected from his motorcycle. A second big-rig then struck him, according to the CHP. The second big-rig caught fire and spilled oil, prompting the need for a four-hour closure of highway lanes.

No other injuries were reported in the crash, CHP officials said.
