Central San Honored For Its Citizens Academy

If you are interested in signing up for the Spring 2017 semester, applications are being taken. Session is free AND fascinating!

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District received the Exceptional Public Outreach & Advocacy Award from the California Special Districts Association during the association’s Annual Conference in San Diego in mid-October.

Central San was awarded for its free Citizens Academy program, which increases public awareness and advocacy of core services.

During the Academy’s inaugural session in spring 2016, 23 participants learned about Central San’s operations as an efficient and effective government agency; how they are striving to provide drought relief through increased use of recycled water; and how they collect and clean wastewater using engineering, technology, biology, and chemistry.

The six-week session included classroom presentations, a tour of Central San’s award-winning treatment plant, and a Q&A with members of their Board of Directors. The Central San Academy opens up a dialogue with its customers, and allows Central San to give back to its community.
