Coroner IDs Woman, 77, Killed In Solo-Car Crash Near Crockett

BREAKING: The victim struck a tree Sunday along Highway 4.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – A 77-year-old woman who died Sunday afternoon after her car veered
off state Highway 4 near Crockett and crashed into a tree has been identified as Marion Fay, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

The crash was initially reported at 12:49 p.m. in the highway's eastbound lanes, just east of Franklin Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Fay, a Richmond resident, was driving a 2009 Honda Civic when, for an unknown reason, her car veered off the road and struck a metal guardrail.

The impact caused the car to ricochet across all of the highway's eastbound lanes and fall into a ditch before slamming into a tree, according to the CHP.

Medical personnel were unable to revive Fay, who was the only occupant in the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

Officers believe Fay was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the CHP.

Officers are continuing to investigate what caused the crash.

They're also taking into consideration that heavy rain had occurred in the area just prior to the crash.
