Driver Killed In Saturday Morning Antioch Crash Is Identified

A woman who died after crashing into a tree Saturday morning in Antioch has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

ANTIOCH - A woman who died after crashing into a tree early Saturday morning in Antioch has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 19-year-old Zarhea Benton.

The Pittsburg resident was among five people who suffered injuries in the crash, which police responded to at 12:47 a.m. Saturday on Hillcrest Avenue near Wildflower Drive.

Benton, who was driving the vehicle that crashed into a tree in the street's center median, suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The four passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries.

They were in stable condition as of Saturday morning and are expected to survive, police said.

Police are investigating if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and were not immediately available Monday morning for an update on the case.
