The Contra Costa Public Law Library, with branches in Martinez, Richmond and Pittsburg, has resources to help you find out what you need to know about keeping a pet in Contra Costa County.

The Library has a great book for dog owners, Every Dog’s Legal Guide,which provides valuable information about:

• vaccinations, licenses and other local laws
• landlords, tenants and dogs
• restrictions on dangerous dogs
• dogs that bite or create a nuisance
• dog owners’ liability for injuries
• animal cruelty
• traveling with dogs
• providing for pets at death
