Man Who Dies In Martinez Jail Is Identified

MARTINEZ - The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died in custody Thursday morning at the Martinez Detention Facility as 57-year-old Alexander Legaspi of Bay Point.

Legaspi was arrested on suspicion of child molestation on July 6, 2015, and was being held on $22 million bail, deputies said.

He was found in a shower around 7:15 a.m. with a bed sheet tied to the shower frame and pronounced dead at the scene.

The results of an autopsy conducted this morning indicated that Legaspi's cause of death was asphyxia by hanging.

It was an apparent suicide, deputies said.
