Martinez PD Arrests Motorist For Allegedly Having Drugs In Car

The suspect struggled with an officer after refusing to exit his vehicle on Alhambra Avenue, police said.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old man in Martinez this morning when officers allegedly found drugs inside his car during a traffic stop.

At 10:51 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the 2500 block of Alhambra Avenue for equipment violations, according to police. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Nicolas Paras, admitted to using marijuana but refused to exit his vehicle. A brief struggle ensued and the officer was ultimately able to detain Paras, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found about 50 grams of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Officers arrested Paras on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale, according to police.

He was booked into the county jail.
