Martinez Shell Refinery Emits Gaslike Odor; No Leak Found

MARTINEZ, CA -- Did you smell it?

A natural gas odor that drifted through the air in the Martinez area on Thursday afternoon was caused by the Shell Martinez Refinery but wasn't dangerous, according to police.

Police said at about 5 p.m. that the odor's source was an additive from the refinery, but there was not a gas leak or health impact from the smell.

Shell Refinery officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
