• Martinez man charged with running over deportation officer's foot (mercurynews.com) — A Martinez resident faces a federal assault charge after prosecutors say he ran over an ICE officer's foot while agents tried to arrest him outside his Martinez home early on August 31. A judge is expected to decide whether he will stay in custody during the case, and the injured officer reportedly suffered a serious foot injury requiring hospitalization.
   

• Brentwood, Orinda educators named Contra Costa Teachers of the Year (contracostaherald.com) — Martinez residents can celebrate that Katie Collins of Martinez Junior High School was named a 2026–27 District Teacher of the Year, spotlighting excellence in the Martinez Unified School District. She joins standout educators countywide as Brentwood's Rebecca St. Michel and Orinda's Stephanie Sado advance to the state Teacher of the Year competition, highlighting strong public schools across Contra Costa.
   

• With gloved hands, litter-pickers and trash bags, Pinole volunteers clean up the coastline (richmondconfidential.org) — Martinez is one of eight Contra Costa cities taking part in this year's California Coastal Cleanup Day, joining Pinole, Richmond, San Pablo and others in clearing trash from local shorelines. Volunteers, especially teens and families, are helping reduce litter and build long-term stewardship of the Bay, with organizers saying years of cleanups may finally be paying off.
