Suspects In Hwy 4 Pursuit From Bay Point To Martinez ID'd By Sheriff's Office

BREAKING: The several-mile chase ended as the 19- and 22-year-old suspects ditched the car but were soon located, authorities said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- Contra Costa County sheriff's officials have released the names of the two people arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly leading authorities on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. According to sheriff's officials, 22-year-old Terry Nichols of Antioch was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of numerous offenses, including possessing a stolen vehicle, evading and resisting arrest. He is being held on $90,000 bail.

Mason Leonard, 19, of Antioch was also arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of possessing stolen property and vandalism. He is being held on $40,000 bail, sheriff's officials said.

On Tuesday at 1:51 p.m., sheriff's deputies tried to pull over a stolen truck on westbound state Highway 4 near Willow Pass Road in Bay Point.

The blue GMC truck did not stop and led sheriff's deputies, Antioch police and California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit.

Nichols, who was driving the stolen truck, drove west on Highway 4, exited at Alhambra Avenue in Martinez, then got back onto the highway and headed east.

According to sheriff's officials, Nichols exited Highway 4 at Hillcrest Avenue, drove through several stoplights and stuck a fence in the 900 block of 13th Street in Antioch.

Nichols and Leonard, who was a passenger in the truck, allegedly fled on foot. Both suspects were soon located and arrested, sheriff's officials said.
