Trespasser On Tracks Killed By Capitol Corridor Train Near Pinole

MARTINEZ - A person was fatally struck by a train Thursday afternoon between Concord and Martinez in Contra Costa County, according to Amtrak officials.

Capitol Corridor train No. 538 struck a trespasser on the track in the vicinity of Pinole at 4:52 p.m.

There were 202 passengers on the train at the time, but no injuries were reported to passengers or crew.

Passengers were eventually transferred to train No. 540 to continue toward their destinations.

Information about the victim was not available.

The incident led to delays, but trains were moving again by 6:45 p.m. according to Amtrak officials.
