Woman Dies In Martinez Amtrak Train Incident
"It was a trespasser, someone on the tracks who should not have been there," said a spokeswoman for Amtrak.

MARTINEZ, CA — Authorities were working Sunday afternoon to identify a pedestrian who was fatally struck by an AMTRAK train Sunday in Martinez. Officers were dispatched at 11:31 a.m. Sunday to the Ferry Street crossing and upon their arrival, found a woman trapped underneath the passenger train, according to a statement from the Martinez Police Department.
The woman, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was approximately 50 years old, police said.
Ferry Street into the marina was closed off for nearly two hours Sunday as the Contra Costa Regional Traffic Team — composed of investigators from the Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and San Ramon police departments — responded to investigate the collision. AMTRAK and Union Pacific investigators were also on scene.

"It was a trespasser, someone on the tracks who should not have been there," said Christina Leeds, a spokeswoman for Amtrak.
Train 733, a Capitol Corridor train, was on its way to Oakland from Sacramento when the strike happened around 11:45 a.m., Leeds said.

The investigation concluded and trains were back on the move around 1 p.m., Leeds said.
Just before 4 p.m., Martinez police said investigators had yet to identify the woman in order to notify her next of kin.
Martinez police asked anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Officer Mike Estanol or Officer Ricky Vasquez at 925-372-3440.
