"Downton Abbey: The Music & the Era"

Free interactive presentation December 1 in Menlo Park

Fans of the PBS Masterpiece hit “Downtown Abbey,” as well as afficionados of Britain’s Edwardian era, are invited to a free presentation at the Menlo Park Library on December 1 entitled “Downton Abbey: The Music & the Era.”

The presentation looks at the music of Downton Abbey within the context of the Edwardian period (beginning of the 20th century) including references via slideshow and audio examples of the era’s arts, social developments, technical innovations, historical events and retrospective perceptions. The popular music of the period as well as television period drama theme tunes will also be discussed, and audience participation is heartily encouraged.

The presentation will be led by Dulais Rhys, Ph.D., a San Francisco based professional musician with over 25 years of experience in a variety of practical, educational and academic disciplines. Dr. Rhys holds music degrees & teaching diplomas from the University of Wales and Trinity College of Music, London. He also studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore MD, specializing in composition, conducting and electronic music.
