Man, 25, and Boy, 15, Identified in Fiery Silicon Valley Crash: Coroner

The two were pronounced dead at the scene of the Sunnyvale crash over the weekend.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – A 25-year-old man and a teenage boy who died in a crash on Central Expressway in Sunnyvale on Saturday have been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Sunnyvale resident Pawandeep Singh and 15-year-old Santa Clara resident Deepak Kundu died in the crash reported at 5:35 p.m. on Central Expressway just east of North Bernardo Avenue.

A two-door coupe was traveling east on Central Expressway when the driver lost control and the car struck a tree in the center median, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

The car caught fire. Bystanders were able to get one person out of the vehicle and emergency responders got the other person out, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Kundu's Facebook page, he was a student at Santa Clara High School.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but slick roads from rain earlier in the day may have been a factor, according to Capt. Vince Chetcuti with the Department of Public Safety.

Chetcuti said investigators are awaiting toxicology reports and are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
