Menlo 41, Eastside Prep 33

Biggest challenge of the game? To adapt.

The Menlo School boys’ basketball team fought Eastside Prep’s third-quarter charge and senior Jackson Dean ignited a late run in a 41-33 victory Tuesday at home.

The win gives Menlo a 3-0 record in West Bay Athletic League play and a lofty 10-3 overall mark.

The Knights held a 12-point lead and led by eight at the half before Eastside chipped it away to 34-31 in the third quarter. In the fourth, Dean forced a turnover that led to junior Andrew Schmitt’s layup and started a 7-2 Menlo run.

“We are seeing that we have to be ready for any and everything,” said Menlo coach Delandro Leday. “The game was slow paced, which we are getting accustomed to, grinding it out if necessary.”

Seniors Richard Harris (eight points, 10 rebounds), Freddy Avis (nine points) and Will Miller (eight points) also paved the way for Menlo.
