Menlo Park Man ID'd In Deadly El Camino Real Crash

BREAKING: The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office publicly identified the victim late Tuesday afternoon.

MENLO PARK, CA – A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Sunday night on El Camino Real in Palo Alto who died Tuesday from the injuries he suffered in the collision was publicly identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office late Tuesday afternoon as 52-year-old Menlo Park resident David LeBlanc.

Earlier Tuesday, Palo Alto police said in a news release that the pedestrian -- later identified as LeBlanc -- was struck at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday as he was using the crosswalk at the intersection of El Camino Real and Barron Avenue. Police and fire personnel responded immediately and found LeBlanc suffering major injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but to due to the severity of his injuries, he died in the early morning hours Tuesday, Palo Alto police Sgt. Brian Philip said.

The police department's preliminary investigation revealed that LeBlanc, wearing dark clothing, was walking eastbound on the south side of the crosswalk when he was struck by a 2006 Toyota Highlander SUV being driven southbound by a Palo Alto woman in her 70s.

The SUV driver was not injured and Philip said investigators do not believe drugs, alcohol or speed of travel were factors in the collision.
