Mountain Lion Spotted Near Hwy. 84 in Woodside

The area in which the animal was seen Wednesday morning is a known big cat habitat.

A mountain lion was spotted in Woodside early this morning, SanĀ Mateo County emergency officials said.

The cat was seen at aboutĀ 1:30 a.m.Ā in the area of state HighwayĀ 84 between Fox Hill and Portola roads, near Wunderlich County Park.

That area is mountain lion habitat, and mountain lions tend toĀ avoid contact with humans.

However, residents are advised to avoid hiking or jogging at dawn,Ā dusk and at night, when the cats are most active. In the event of anĀ encounter, the advice is not to run, but rather to face the cat, yell, try toĀ appear menacing and throw rocks or other objects at the animal.
