ATHERTON, CA – This year's National Night Out, the annual nationwide evening to promote police partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 7, and the Atherton Police Department has a fun-filled evening planned for all.

Millions of neighbors in thousands of communities across the U.S. take part in National Night Out, started in 1984, on the first Tuesday in August with block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and often with such activities as safety demonstrations and visits from emergency personnel.

The Ahterton police, in conjunction with the town's Administration and Public Works, will host its fifth annual get-together on Aug. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holbrook-Palmer Park, 150 Watkins Ave. in Atherton, with a free barbecue, entertainment, face-painting and three bounce houses.

"National Night Out is a nationwide program designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations, and let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," the Town of Atherton said. "Atherton residents are asked to turn on their outside lights, lock their doors, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police at Holbrook-Palmer Park.

The event will be held on the lawn directly in front of the Main House and will include an appearance by Red E. Fox and CHP’s own Chipper the Chipmunk, balloon makers, face painters, plus will feature snow cones, cotton candy, music, and a pet adoption agency with puppies!
