📰 News we're reading

1. For former TIDE students, a rocky start and missing programs at Woodside High (almanacnews.com) — Families of former TIDE Academy students in Menlo Park say the promised smooth transition to Woodside High has instead meant long early-morning bus rides from Menlo Park, late buses, and missing STEM and dual-enrollment courses. Parents report broken commitments to keep cohorts together and preserve key programs, raising worries about anxiety, grades, and college readiness as the district works to integrate students.

2. Menlo Park Joins Growing List of Bay Area Cities Reining in Flock Cameras (kqed.org) — Menlo Park Police is revoking and rewriting all its data‑sharing agreements for Flock license plate reader cameras after discovering about 700 searches that violated its policies. The department will now require updated one‑to‑one agreements, conduct regular audits, and has already cut off access for a regional intelligence center, as other Bay Area agencies scale back or cancel their Flock contracts.

3. Meta agrees to teen limits in settlements worth up to $18 billion (statenews.net) — From its Menlo Park headquarters, Meta has agreed to pay up to $18 billion and accept strict new limits on teens' use of Facebook and Instagram. The settlement with most U.S. states caps daily screen time, restricts overnight access without parental consent, and funds state programs, while Meta continues to face separate lawsuits over youth mental health impacts.

4. What $217K gets you in Palo Alto: A condo where an 1840s adobe once stood (almanacnews.com) — Midpeninsula home sales from mid‑July include activity in Menlo Park alongside nearby cities, offering a snapshot of what properties are closing and at what prices. One standout is a below‑market‑rate Palo Alto condo on the historic former Robles Adobe site, illustrating how local history and today's tight housing market intersect for buyers and sellers across the region.
