Planting Leader Training with Canopy

Join our dynamic team of volunteer planting leaders!

Our amazing planting leaders are integral to our work. It’s thanks to their leadership and enthusiasm that we’re able to plant hundreds of trees each year, and care for hundreds more.

Planting Leaders are trained in proper tree-planting techniques and young tree care practices. During planting events, planting leaders pass on this knowledge, providing guidance and instruction to groups of tree planting volunteers. Along the way, they build connections and friendships, grow a thriving urban forest, and help create greener, healthier communities.

About the Training:

This free hands-on workshop is for teens and adults who want to help lead community tree-plantings with Canopy. No prior experience or knowledge is required; all skill levels are welcome! Returning veterans who would like to sharpen their skills are also invited to join.

Part One includes an introduction to urban trees, proper tree-planting techniques, and best practices in young tree care.

Part Two allows participants to put their new skills to work planting young trees at a community space (school, park, or neighborhood) in Palo Alto or East Palo Alto.

In exchange for this free workshop, we ask that trainees volunteer for at least two Canopy planting events and one tree care work day during our planting season, October 2015 through April 2016.
