San Mateo Students Encouraged To Work Election Polls

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA -- Students from five San Mateo County high schools have signed up to work at the polls in the November 7 election, and there's still time for more students to apply, the county elections office said.

Students from Oceana, Carlmont, Woodside, Aragon and Burlingame high schools have signed up to participate in the democracyLIVE! program. The program was established to help students understand the election process and the rights and responsibilities of voters.

Participants will be trained before the Nov. 7 consolidated municipal, school and special district election, and will get a $115 stipend for the day, plus $25 for the training if they serve on Election Day, according to the San Mateo County Registration & Election Division.

To participate, students must be enrolled in high school or a 2017 graduate; U.S. citizens or permanent residents; live or go to school in San Mateo County; 16 years old or older; have a minimum 2.5 GPA; and have their parents' and schools' written permission.
