BASEBALL: Vikes Can't Hold Early Lead Against Cap
Mills surrenders 12 hits to rival in 10-3 PAL Ocean Division defeat; visiting Vikings start strong but Cap rallies with five-run second inning to take control.
The Score: Capuchino 10, Mills 3.
The Star: Mills High’s Joey Carney had a strong game at the plate and on the mound for the visitors. The junior went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and recorded four strikeouts over the final 1 2/3 innings in the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division game on Tuesday.
The Turning Point: After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, a demoralizing top of the second had Mills on its knees. The Vikings allowed five runs on five hits while facing the entire batting order and never recovered.

The Quote: “After the first inning we left the ball out there for them to take advantage of it and that cost us.” – Mills senior catcher Daniel Standig, on what went wrong in the pitching game.
What’s Next? Mills will visit Capuchino on Friday at 7 p.m. at San Bruno Park.

The Bottom Line: Mills got four of its five hits in the first two innings and went cold from there, posting a 6-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio for the remainder of the game. Though both teams struggled to score in the middle innings, Capuchino kept getting runners on base -- it was only a matter of time until the Mustangs started producing runs again.
Notes: The game was initially scheduled to be played at Mills but was changed to Capuchino due to Mills’ field conditions -- it wasn’t dry enough to play there. The Vikings used three different pitchers (Yanni Sarikakis four innings, Andrew Butte 1 1/3 innings and Carney) and allowed four stolen bases. … Ace Bryan Hidalgo is expected to start on Friday against Cap.
