BREAKING: Possible Suicide Threat Prompts San Mateo PD to Ask Locals to 'Shelter in Place'

"...SMPD is asking residents in and around the 600 block of Edna Way, to shelter in place and lock all doors and windows."

San Mateo police are asking people in the area of Edna Way to stay indoors, as a police situation unfolds.

According to SMPD, officers responded around 8:20 a.m. to the 600 block of Edna Way to a report of a man threatening to hurt himself. As of 10:22 a.m., police remained on scene.

β€œOfficers arrived quickly on scene and have contained the situation to preserve public safety,” a nixle alert from the agency states. β€œSMPD is actively working now to resolve the matter as soon as possible.”

Police have since asked residents in the area to shelter in place. Here’s their alert:

β€œAs a precaution while we work to resolve the situation, SMPD is asking residents in and around the 600 block of Edna Way, to shelter in place and lock all doors and windows. Again, this is as a precaution for the safety our community while officers on scene work to resolve the situation. We have sufficient police officers present at this time and have the situation contained to protect and preserve public safety.”
