City Of Millbrae 101 Express Lanes Construction Update – Week Of July 27
Caltrans will continue to monitor traffic delays and make adjustments, as necessary.

Construction activities on U.S. 101 will include: extended weekend ramp closures beginning Saturday, August 1st, in/near the cities of San Carlos, Foster City, and San Mateo; continued work on the sound walls along Bayshore Boulevard (from Newbridge Avenue to just past Dakota Avenue and from 2nd Avenue to Dore Avenue), all within the City of San Mateo. Additional work will include installing storm drainage systems and sign foundations; storm drainage system maintenance; paving; electrical service work; and other related construction activities.

Most of the work will occur on the freeway lanes, shoulders, and ramps, while the sound wall and sewer work will occur on city streets adjacent to U.S. 101.
Extended Freeway Ramp Closures: Beginning Saturday, August 1st, extended weekend ramp closures may occur at ramps in/near the cities of San Carlos, Foster City, and San Mateo as noted below, in order to facilitate drainage system construction. Closures may begin after 11:00 PM on Saturday night and end by 7:00 AM on Monday morning. Detour signs will be posted. In addition, changeable message signs will indicate exact closure times and locations. Extended weekend ramp closures may occur at the following locations:

- Southbound Holly Street On-Ramp/Brittan Avenue Off-Ramp Collector-Distributor Road
- Northbound Hillsdale Boulevard Off-Ramp
In addition to the ramps mentioned above, there are additional locations in/near the cities of San Carlos, Foster City, and San Mateo that will eventually require extended weekend closures at a future time. These are:
- Southbound Hillsdale Boulevard Diagonal On-Ramp
- Northbound 3rd/4th Avenue Off-Ramp
- Southbound Poplar Avenue On-Ramp
Potential Impacts from Nighttime Work Near Removed Sound Wall: Continuing the week of July 26th, construction crews will install sign foundations on U.S. 101 near the removed sound wall along Bayshore Boulevard from 2nd Avenue to Dore Avenue and from Dore Avenue to East Poplar Avenue in the City of San Mateo. Nearby residents and travelers may see construction crews from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. This work may include noise and vibration from drilling as well as other common construction-related sounds such as back-up alarms. This work is anticipated to begin after 8:00 PM on Monday, July 27th and conclude no later than 5:00 AM on Friday, July 31st.
Sound Wall/Sewer Work: Construction crews continue to implement one-way traffic control periodically on Bayshore Boulevard (from Newbridge Avenue to just past Dakota Avenue, from 2nd Avenue to Dore Avenue, and from Dore Avenue to East Poplar Avenue) in the City of San Mateo to facilitate work on the sound walls and sewer systems. One-way traffic control may occur from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. During this time, northbound traffic will remain on Bayshore Boulevard while southbound traffic will be detoured. After 5:00 PM, the road will be restored to two-way traffic.
