Sheriff's officials say a woman was rushed to the hospital following the Friday morning incident.

MILLBRAE, CA β€” A woman was hospitalized Friday morning in a Millbrae hit-and-run crash, sheriff's officials said. But though the driver fled the scene after hitting the woman β€” law enforcement officers in a nearby Peninsula town caught up with the person a short time later.

Just before 5 a.m., the unidentified 38-year-old victim was crossing El Camino Real in a crosswalk when she was hit, according to Sheriff's Det. Rosemerry Blankswade.

"The driver fled and made no attempt to stop," Blankswade said in a news release.

However, thanks to the help of some witnesses, authorities gathered a vehicle description and relayed that information on the Peninsula, according to the detective. Shortly thereafter, Burlingame police found the vehicle involved.

"The driver was located and placed under arrest by Sheriff’s Deputies for violation of felony hit and run," Blankswade said. "The pedestrian... was transported, with major injuries, to a local hospital and is currently being treated for her injuries."
