Millbrae Reminds Residents of New Electric Vehicle Parking Ordinance

MILLBRAE, CA – At the Council meeting on February 14, 2017, the Millbrae City Council read and adopted an Ordinance to prohibit electric vehicles from parking longer than two hours in an electric vehicle charging station. The ordinance also states that the vehicle must be plugged in while parked in the space, and forbids any non-electric vehicle from parking in a charging station.

“Electric vehicles provide a cleaner alternative to traditional, gas-powered vehicles,” said Reuben Holober, Mayor of the City of Millbrae. “Protecting environment is important and, as a Council, it is our civic obligation to reduce pollution where we can. With this ordinance, it is now easier for residents with electric vehicles to charge their cars in a convenient and timely fashion.”

To keep pace with the demand for public electric vehicle charging, the City of Millbrae has installed ten dual-port Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations since 2015. In January 2017, the Council adopted a resolution to charge a fee for use of such a station, as well as outlined the type of vehicle and for how long said vehicle could be parked in a publicly owned charging station.
